Day 5
Day 5: We
started on the puppy development by bringing them to other
room, letting them smell a new smell (this time it was
banana) and putting them into challenging place - the pie
plate. The goal is to see how pups react to new surroundings
and if they panic, climb out or are cool with it. I am happy
to report that everyone was cool with it, some slept like
Mr. Orange some some climb out immediately like Miss Pink
and Mr. Red. Rest of them checked it out and were cool to be
in it, no problem. Not many liked banana. We will let them
smell cat hair (watch out Nikky!) apple, orange, lemon, nail
polish, various smells. We will put them on wet towel, place
them on different surfaces and whe they open their eye, we
will hang a large toy into their box with some smaller toys
inside the box so they can start playing with them. The eyes
should open day 9-11, their ears later, at day 19 or so. We
will be playing them Vivaldi and some Kid Rock meanwhile.
Corey loves puppies and it was the first time Hunor laid
eyes on such a small Vizsla in his life. They were very
gentle and easy going with them, but very curious. Tula came
out to watch the proceedings and if necessary intervene. She
ended up very happy with us, she liked the break from the
nursery room.
One more
little tidbit. Tula saw me count the pups every time I
walked in since the first day, so first thing she does when
I walk into the whelp room is look from one puppy to
next and to next, counting them with me! It is uncanny, I
swear she is counting them for me! When she finishes, she
looks up at me expectantly like she is saying, see all of
them are here! Don't worry! How smart is that!
Enjoy the
slide show. I hope it can take place of imbedding
them on the page. I will be posting new articles for
new owners on the left side bar, please check there
for "How to prepare for Toldin puppy" and some links
to recommended books. I will also put some articles
there on housetraining, crate training, importance
of socialization and others.
