Hilarie writes that Scanner did his first retrieve at 9 weeks:
"A mink got into our pigeon house and decimated a few birds so we used them for training.  Barrie just threw one out for Scanner  a couple of days ago without any fanfare and he raced out, found it, picked it up and ran back with it and presented it just like he knew what he was doing!!  And so he did of course!"
